The Outdoors Project is enrolled in the Kickstarter Scheme.  We successfully recruited and trained 5 staff in 2021 as part of the scheme (read their stories here) and are now looking to recruit further ‘Kickstarters’ to join us for fun in 2022.   You’ll receive training on all aspects of the business and work with our fun and friendly team at our fun OUTDOORS activities clubs across Brighton and Hove. (Please only apply if you have lots of energy and LOVE being active and outdoors whatever the weather!!).

What is the Kickstarter Scheme?  The Government has announced a paid work & skills experience programme for young people aged 18-24 & are currently claiming Universal Credit. It is called the Kickstarter Programme & it will support young people to build experience and hopefully move into sustained employment after completion.

Who is it for:  The role would suit someone with lots of energy looking for a career in outdoors pursuits, sports, education or childcare?  We are offering the opportunity to join a growing business with unlimited potential whilst making a positive, healthy difference to young people. We are looking for enthusiastic, organised and motivated people to join us and work as part of a busy, professional small team to assist with the logistics of the day to day running at our clubs.  WHAT TO EXPECT WORKING AT THE OUTDOORS PROJECT

About The Outdoors Project: The Outdoors Project HQ, based in Brighton & Hove runs year round Childcare Activity Clubs for children age 5-12. Our mission is to encourage kids to spend quality time outdoors and gain all the benefits from doing so! Fresh air, exercise, developing friendships, learning about nature, engaging in “wild time”, exploring creativity & imagination, learning new skills and above all having fun!! The Outdoors Project has 4 franchisees across the UK with ambitions to grow the Franchise side of the business.

What We Offer: High quality 6 month on-the-job training. Our Kickstarter will work as part of a busy, professional small team to assist with the logistics of the day to day running of the clubs across all sites. You’ll gain practical work experience and learn new skills. These include planning and organisation, facilitation and reviewing, communication, confidence when dealing with customers, and safety management. Full training and support will be provided by The Outdoors Project to help you reach your full potential in your role. On successful completion of the Kickstarter programme, there is potential to progress into a permanent member of staff.

The Role: CHILDREN’S OUTDOORS ACTIVITY CLUB SITE - CO-ORDINATOR - KICKSTARTER

    • To assist in the co-ordinatation and the day-to-day running across all of The Outdoors Project sites.
    • Kit preparation, maintenance and set up.
    • Club Site preparation - clearing sites, creating areas for actvities, upkeep of site
    • Run activities at clubs
    • Liaise with Site Leaders and other staff during clubs about requirements
    • Posting on social accounts
    • To work with the team to ensure that services are meeting Ofsted requirements ie. Site risk assessements, health and safety documents, site plans.
    • Day to Day, weather and kit changes and on ground support for all team

Essential Criteria:

To be eligible for the Kickstarter role the applicant must be both between 18-24 AND currently claiming Universal Credit.
Reliable team player with a willingness to learn and help out
    • Fun and empathetic, enjoys spending time with children
    • Physical outdoors labour – healthy, fit and energetic
    • Outdoors all year around - happy to work outside whatever the weather!
    • Demonstrates enthusiasm and pride in maintaining a high standard throughout
    • Ability to multitask and prioritise responsibilities
    • An eagerness for learning new skills
    • Driver & vehicle owner an advantage
    • Experience in Childcare/Outdoors Education an advantage

Training offered: First Aid, DBS, Safeguarding + ongoing external and internal training on business and employability throughout the contract

Term: Initially a 6 month period with a personal development plan in place and a long term view to move successful candidates into a permanent position.
Start date:  by end February 2022 / Interviews w/c 24th January, successful applicants will then be asked to attend a trial session.
Working hours: 25 hours per week, Monday - Saturday (hours will be Rota-d monthly )
Pay rate:  National minimum wage depends on your age category
