THE ROLES: 

HOLIDAY CLUB LEADERS & ASSISTANTS

The Outdoors Project run Holiday Clubs for children age 5-11, 100% outdoors all year around.  Our mission is to encourage kids to spend quality time outdoors and gain all the benefits from doing so!  Fresh air, nature, exercise, developing friendships, engaging in “wild time”, exploring creativity & imagination, learning new skills and above all having lots of FUN !!

We are looking for both experienced Childcare/Activity Leaders and enthusiastic Assistants to join our 2021 Holiday Club team to bring to life the The Outdoors Project ethos.   We are looking for people who are fun and engaging to give children and parents confidence in the fact that every element of their time with us is being delivered with enthusiasm and care.   

Every Holiday Club day follows a clear structure, Leaders and Assistants will deliver a safe and fun day of activities in line with The Outdoors Project training, often days will be based on a popular children’s theme ie. Harry Potter, Pokemon, Roald Dahl, Minecraft and actvities include; Bush Craft, Survival Skills, Team Games, Nerf and Nature Craft.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A current DBS check or access to the update service is desirable but for the right candidate, we can apply for one on your behalf. 
  • Safeguarding & Level 3 First Aid Qualification are desirable but can be arranged if you do not yet have them. 
  • You will need to be aware of Child safeguarding processes and procedures and also the latest government guidance of managing COVID-19 in childcare settings.  Full training will be given.   
  • The ability to work well within a team, communicate, be on time and reliable is essential. 
  • A Driving License and Forest School Level 3 is also desirable

LEADER:  The ideal candidate will have experience of working with Primary School children. 

ASSISTANT:  If you are 17 yrs or above and are approachable, enthusiastic, want to be part of a fun team, passionate about working with children and have a love for the outdoors then join us!  Full training provided. 

Hours:   9.00am - 3.30pm, Monday to Friday during the School Holidays. (Easter, Whitsun half term,  Summer, October half term, Christmas)

Start date:  Easter School Holidays 2021 (Covid 19 guidelines allowing)

Recruitment process:   Telephone interview and if successful we will invite you to attend training in March (or as soon allowed)

Pay: £6.50 - £12.50 per hour.  Your pay rates will depend on your experience, age and qualifications.  Uniform will be provided

THE KICKSTARTER SCHEME

The Government has announced a paid work & skills experience programme for young people aged 16-24 & are currently claiming Universal Credit. It is called the Kickstarter Programme & it will support young people to build experience and hopefully move into sustained employment after completion.

We have two available apprenticeship roles,

1 POSITION:  OFFICE ADMIN ASSISTANT - KICKSTART APPRENTICE  
3 POSITIONS: CHILDREN’S OUTDOORS ACTIVITY CLUB SITE - CO-ORDINATOR - KICKSTART APPRENTICE

What We Can Offer:   High quality 6 month on-the-job training: You will have the opportunity to learn new skills in both an office and/or an outdoors club setting.  Whilst on-the-job, you will gain confidence as you work with a supportive and friendly team to get the best out of your apprenticeship experience.

THE ROLES:

THE OUTDOORS PROJECT OFFICE ASSISTANT - KICKSTART APPRENTICE

Are you keen to work in an office, earn and develop your skills? Join a growing business with unlimited potential whilst making a positive, healthy difference to young people

Our Apprentice will work as part of a busy, professional small team to assist with the day to day running and managing of all aspects of the business in the office. We are seeking a candidate with a willingness to learn about all aspects of the business in order to deliver support in this admin and customer services based role.

Full training and support will be provided by The Outdoors Project to help you achieve your apprenticeship and reach your full potential in your role. Whilst this is an office based job the training will include an induction working at our Outdoors Clubs (After School/Holiday and Saturday clubs), to give you a necessary understanding of the business we run. The applicant will also be trained as a club assistant and from time to time will be asked to work at clubs

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, there is potential to progress into a permanent member of staff.

Job Duties:

    • Assist with the day to day running of the office
    • Answer telephone calls and respond to email enquiries
    • Respond to admin questions from staff, schools, franchisees and parents/carers
    • Order office purchases, office cleaning & supplies and other items as needed
    • Keeping well organised files and records of business activities.
    • Website & social media administration.
    • Establishing and maintaining databases and recording systems.
    • Follow company procedures and strict confidentiality policy

Essential Criteria:

    • Team player with a willingness to learn and help out
    • Demonstrates enthusiasm and pride in maintaining a high standard throughout
    • An eagerness for learning new skills
    • Good Communication Skills
    • Organised & Attention to detail
    • Computer Skills: Email, Microsoft office (Word, EXCEL)
    • Ability to manage/post on Social media accounts
    • Basic knowledge of Photoshop would be an advantage
    • Applicants must have a good standard of education to include GCSE English and Maths grade C or above (or equivalent)

Training offered: First Aid, DBS, Safeguarding + ongoing external and internal training throughout the year.

Term: Initially a 6 month period with a personal development plan in place and a long term view to move successful candidates into a permanent position.

Working hours: 25 hours per week, Monday - Friday (to include some Saturday work)

Pay rate: The hourly rate per age-group is listed below for this earn & learn opportunity (from April 2021):

    • Age 23 or over £8.91
    • Age 21 to 22: £8.36
    • Age 18 to 20: £6.56
    • Age 16 to 17: £4.62

THE OUTDOORS PROJECT CLUB SITE CO-ORDINATOR - KICKSTART APPRENTICE

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated person to join our team as Children’s Outdoors Activity Club Site Co-ordinator - Kickstart apprentice.  Our Apprentice will work as part of a busy, professional small team to assist with the logistics of the day to day running of the clubs across all our club sites.

THE ROLE: 

  • To assist in the co-ordinatation and the day-to-day running across all of The Outdoors Project sites.
  • Kit preparation, maintenance and set up.
  • Club Site preparation - clearing sites, creating areas for actvities, upkeep of site
  • Run activities at clubs
  • Liaise with Site Leaders and other staff during clubs about requirements 
  • Posting on social accounts
  • To work with the team to ensure that services are meeting Ofsted requirements ie. Site risk assessements, health and safety documents, site plans.
  • Day to Day, weather and kit changes and on ground support for all team

Essential Criteria:

  • Reliable team player with a willingness to learn and help out 
  • Fun and empathetic, enjoys spending time with children
  • Physical outdoors labour – healthy, fit and energetic
  • Outdoors all year around - happy to work outside whatever the weather!
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and pride in maintaining a high standard throughout
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise responsibilities
  • An eagerness for learning new skills
  • Driver & vehicle owner an advantage
  • Experience in Childcare/Outdoors Education an advantage

Training offered: First Aid, DBS, Safeguarding + ongoing external and internal training throughout the year.

Term: Initially a 6 month period with a personal development plan in place and a long term view to move successful candidates into a permanent position.

Working hours: 25 hours per week, Monday - Saturday (hours will be Rota-d monthly )

Pay rate: The hourly rate per age-group is listed below for this earn & learn opportunity (from April 2021):

    • Age 23 or over £8.91
    • Age 21 to 22: £8.36
    • Age 18 to 20: £6.56
    • Age 16 to 17: £4.62

VOLUNTEERS:   LEADERSHIP & CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Are you 16+ and interested in gaining experience working within the Children’s Activities & Outdoors Adventure Industry?

Who we are and what we do: The Outdoors Project mission is to encourage kids to spend quality time outdoors and gain all the benefits from doing so! Fresh air, exercise, developing friendships, learning about nature, engaging in “wild time”, exploring creativity & imagination, learning new skills and above all having fun!! 

We run regular After School Clubs, Holiday Clubs, Birthday Parties, Parent and Toddler Groups and School Workshops.  The Outdoors Project Session Leaders are the heroes to our young adventurers.

We are looking for: This would suit college students requiring work based learning as part of their course, Duke of Edinburgh participants or anyone looking to gain valuable experience in the industry.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated young people.   This is a chance to share your love of fun, nature, action and the great outdoors and to learn new skills. 

What is the programme: Put yourself at the front of the queue for future employability.

Spend 3 months with us getting a taste for how we run our Outdoors Children’s Activity Clubs, whilst building a foundation of skills to support you in the work place.   You will be working in a fun and nurturing environment alongside our Session Leaders helping to run activities and ensuring your group has a fantastic time.  

We have a varied programme of fun activities.  Youwill have the opportunity develop a range of employability skills including organisation, facilitation, communication and teamwork.  A very rewarding, confidence building and fun experience.
